Kent.co.uk social networking

Back in January 2009 we were honoured to be awarded the job to build the first website for kent.co.uk.

Kent.co.uk was to be a dual concept website giving visitors a fully featured social networking experience with information about places, events and groups in Kent. 

The social networking aspect of the site needed to incorporate the Google mapping API at every level. Users would need to see their friends as mini icons on an interactive map of Kent along with icons for their places, events and groups. This made our job particularly challenging. We needed to carefully think about security and privacy so not to leak users exact geographic location.

The Google maps element of Kent.co.uk offers something that no other social networking site has. This new form of social networking website development has been dubbed Geo-Social Networking and Kick Interactive are proud to have developed one of the very first websites in this class.

Technology Enterprise Kent along with Whiten Marketing choose to work with Kick Interactive above many other digital agencies and web development companies. From the project start we worked very hard to meet the agreed milestones. We used PHP, Ajax and MySQL to deliver the project. Our development team are especially pleased with projects final result.

The late nights, heated discussions and the constant battle with technology against innovation have been clearly worthwhile when you look at the end results.

Kent.co.uk challenged our team but the experience, knowledge and satisfaction gained from this project has been completely worthwhile.
